THE COLLEGE

The school of Nursing, Jos started as a nursing auxiliary training school in 1920. By the year 1946, it stated the training of Nurses to meet the immediate and subsequent health needs of the society, and to serve as at training ground tor the Northern personnel who had successfully pass their preliminary training school (PTS) to become nurses. The nursing council of Nigeria then visited the school in 1968 for the purpose of inspecting it for approval to serve as training institution for nurses. Subsequent upon which it was given a final approval in 1983. It then became known as School of Nursing, Jos. Ever since, the school has continued to play its expected role of producing competent professional nurses into the healthcare delivery system all over the world.

The College of Nursing Sciences, Vom is a growing, dynamic vision-driven College, founded on a Christian mission ethos and committed to pioneering excellence at the cutting edge of learning.

We run with a compelling vision of raising a new generation of leaders for the African continent. We are doing this on a holistic, human development and integrated learning curriculum to raise total Men and Women who will develop their world

The college has three (3) areas of study which include: Basic Midwifery, Post Basic Nursing, and Basic Nursing

OUR OBJECTIVES

At the end of the Educational programme, the student will:
  1. Apply the knowledge of biological behavioural and Nursing Science in assessing. planning; implementing and evaluating nursing care,
  2. Utilize the nursing process in providing comprehensive nursing care to individuals and families in the community
  3. Establish positive working relationships with individuals. family and community and motivate toward self-reliance in matters of health protection, promotion maintenance, and rehabilitation.
  4. Function independently and in collaboration with other members of the health team and related sectors in the planning, delivering and evaluating health care
  5. Supervise the clinical experience of nursing, and allied health workers in all clinical setting
  6. Develop the capabilities of competent Nurse practitioners to effectively provide family planning services in homes/hospital and community
  7. Apply the principles of primary health care, in providing comprehensive continuous and personalized care in homes, schools and health care institutions
  8. Apply management principles in the optimum utilization of human and material resources for health care delivery
